This is a very broad topic and I do not know enough on the subject to answer it well.
The short answer is that it is forbidden in Islam in a similar way to how it is forbidden in Judaism and Christianity and for most of history has not been practised so openly as it is today.
Islam, judaism and Christianity all believe in the people of Sodom who Prophet Lut (Lot) was sent to. They were the first people who practised homosexuality and punishment cane down upon them.
Also, until the “official” name AIDS was given, the newly discovered disease was originally called “GRID (Gay Related Immune Difficiency)”.
